On Sunday evening March 24 around 10pm, the Truter family were attacked on their farm. Kirkwood farmer and Ex-Beaufort Wester, Duane Truter (51) was fatally stabbed in the back and died some time later in hospital.
Duane Truter was the son of the Monty Truter who farmed on the Nuweveld up De Jagers Pass way.
“The incident happened on the farm Dunbrody in Kirkwood, when three men attacked the family, just after 10 pm on Sunday evening.” said Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.
“According to police information, the family was at home when an unknown male entered the house,” Swart said.
The 51-year-old father and his son allegedly managed to overpower the suspect. However, two more suspects entered the house, one of which started stabbing Duane in his back.
They released the suspect and the three, who were wearing balaclavas, fled from the scene.

Arrest made for the murder of Kirkwood farmer Duane Truter
A task team consisting of various specialized units was set up to search for the three suspects. Police are investigating a case of murder and house robbery. No arrests have been made.
