When a popular business man from Vereeniging, Galoopy van Staden, did not answer his phone by 12pm, a massive search was launched by friends, family and residents of the Vaal area.
On September 26 at around 15:30, Johan van Staden, aka Galoopy, was found in his double cab pickup, in a field next to the Kareekloof Road (R557). He had been shot in the head.
On arrival, rescue services found Galoopy in his vehicle and despite valiant efforts, nothing the paramedics tried, could save the man’s life. Galoopy was declared dead on the scene.
A popular and respected figure in his community, Galoopy was an avid sports fan and sold cars for a living.
A local newspaper The Vaalweekblad reports, that Galoopy met with a prospective buyer and that he was possibly carjacked by the buyer. The South African Police is investigating a case of murder.
Immediately after the news, friends and family took to social media:

“R.I.P. Sad day for my friends in South Africa. His family most of all say a prayer for them.” – reads another comment.
“R. I. P. It’s a big loss for all of us who have had you as a friend. You will be sorely missed. Good luck Clarissa and kiddies. Our hearts go out to you. We hope that our Heavenly Father will close your family with His love and heal your broken hearts,” – reads another.
Galoopy, is survived by his wife Clarissa and four children.
