An elderly couple was brutally attacked by a group of terrorists. Crashing through the front gate, the attackers quickly overpowered the defenseless couple. The fear and trauma caused the elderly lady to go into cardiac arrest. Within minutes Marie Woolrich collapsed and died.
On Friday November 15, at around 11am, the Wooldridge family who had been living in Pinetown, for over forty two years, was attacked by armed men.
Pinetown is situated on the world-famous Comrades Marathon route about 16 km west of Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Nigel Wooldridge (69) had just returned home to his wife of 30 years, when the attackers forced the gate open, and gained entry to the home. The defenseless couple, were then tied up with shoelaces, while the attackers ransacked their home.
Marie Woolrich (65), was so traumatised, she had difficulty to breath, and shortly afterwards collapsed and died of shock.
Showing no mercy, the terrorists continued on their quest to disown the senior couple of their hard earned belongings.
“My father had lost the only friend he ever had” said Richard, the couple’s son.
“They took my parents’ black Ford Focus and a white Bantam pickup, two wedding rings, cash, gate remotes, TV sets, a laptop and a set of keys,” said Richard.
Richard said the family had not made any funeral arrangements yet.
Garrith Jamieson, of Rescue Care said a security officer from Pro Force Security performed CPR on Marie but unfortunately she passed away.
