On Thursday afternoon 10 September 2020, three terrorists attacked the home of the Reed family in De Kock Street Napier in the Western Cape. Having been watching the house for some time, they waited for Mike Reed to leave on a shopping errand. Jumping over the perimeter fence they attacked Rosalie Reed (73) in her kitchen and murdered her in cold blood.
By the time Mike Reed returned, his beloved Rosalie was dead, lying in a pool of blood.
According to Colonel André Traut spokesperson for the police, three men were arrested.
After inquiry two were released with the third kept in custody and set to appear in court on Monday in Bredasdorp.
Neighbors of the Reed family said that the couple made a living selling timber and it is possible that the attackers wanted to rob the family, thinking there would be cash in the house.
As reported previously a shocking number of elderly persons are being murdered in South Africa with impunity. Many asphyxiated using plastic bags and often caretakers are involved in the crime. One can only imagine the fear these most vulnerable of citizens must experience, fearing not only the COVID 19 virus but also those most trusted to care for them.
