Belinda Shaw (53) and her mother Babs Ackerman(78) found dead with their throats slit at their home in Florida Park, Roodepoort.
On Sunday morning 25 October 2020, friends of Belinda Shaw became concerned when she could not be reached on their WhatsApp group. The group had become used to Belinda’s regular salutations at 6 am every morning and found her absence unusual. Her last message was at 11:01 pm the previous evening.
A decision was made to go and investigate and the ladies were found murdered at their home in Louis Botha Drive Florida Park. The police released information on the victim’s ages as one 78-year-old woman and her 53-year-old daughter. They had suffered numerous sharp wounds and blunt trauma to their bodies. The son of the 78-year-old alerted friends to the scene where the women’s bodies were found in a garden cottage on the property.
“The case has been escalated to the Gauteng Provincial Investigating Unit and is investigated in line with the police’s commitment to prioritise all cases of gender-based violence and femicide,” confirmed Provincial Police spokesperson, Brigadier Mathapelo Peters.
Anyone who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators is urged to contact their nearest police station, or call the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
A school friend from Laerskool Marais shared the shocking news of the double murder on social media with a recent photo of Belinda at the school’s reunion she attended.
